DERWENT — An estimated $5.5 million construction and renovation project is underway at Bi-Con Service’s campus on Clay Pike Road in Derwent.

Crews are relocating utility lines to pave the way for a new two-story, 15,000-square-foot office building behind the current building. The project will also include renovations to the current two-story building with similar square footage.

The two buildings will be joined by a 9,000-foot atrium-style connector.

“The new addition will add nearly 90 new offices and numerous conference areas and collaborative working spaces,” said Bi-Con President Denny Patterson. “The second phase of construction will include modernizing the existing work areas.

“When it is finished, we will add about as many offices as we have now,” Patterson added.

The current Bi-Con office building houses approximately 100 employees.

“This will allow for growth across the entire business,” said Patterson.

Once the project is complete, Bi-Con will be able to add more skilled positions such as engineers, drafters, designers and project managers. The company will also need to hire more managers and laborers on the construction side of the business.

“A lot of the positions will be two-year and four-year degree jobs,” said Patterson. “But, we will also add other positions. It is company-wide growth.”

The exact number of new hires has yet to be determined.

Construction on the new building is scheduled to begin in mid-June following site preparation work. The estimated completion date is summer of 2022.
